“The thing that swayed us to SMB, more so than other schools, was that they have a social responsibility aspect to their school and they focus on morale values and instill an ethical awareness in kids. We also wanted a full French Immersion experience where the teachers speak to the students, each other and even you if you wish. But for a child that’s learning French and the parents don’t know French I don’t think that’s a deterrent. My husband doesn’t speak French, but he’s learning along with my children. Malia takes great pride in telling him the new thing she’s learned in French. If anything you learn slowly along with them and grow together.”

“I have two children who attend École Ste-Marguerite Bourgeoys. We recently moved to Kenora and chose SMB based on their French Immersion Program and high academic standards. But once we got inside the school we were amazed at how every staff member, teacher, admin and E.A. works endlessly to ensure our children succeed. They’re all so kind and patient. My children love the beautiful campus and all the extra-curriculars. I cannot say enough positive things about this school.”

“Hi, my son Blake is in Kindergarten at Ecole Ste-Marguerite Bourgeoys. While we know he’s getting an excellent education in both French and English, it’s actually the small things that make the biggest difference. As a parent, there are so many ways you can be involved in the school, the staff are so welcoming and friendly, and there’s a strong emphasis on raising your child to be a kind and caring person. It’s like your joining a family when your child goes to SMB and we look forward to sending our two younger sons there in the future.”

“My daughter Avase is in senior kindergarten at École Ste-Marguerite Bourgeoys in Kenora. On the first day, Avase came home and was teaching her dad how to count in French! We were so impressed. Everything done at the school is for families. It’s a gentle entry with French and Avase is learning at her own pace. I don’t know French, but that doesn’t matter! We really love the school’s warm and welcoming environment.”
École Ste-Marguerite Bourgeoys is proud to offer strong programming that supports student success in academics. Our EMPOWER Reading Program helps gives students the tools they need to read. The Empower Reading program was introduced at St. Louis School in the 2017-2018 school year and was expanded due to its success to all elementary schools at Kenora Catholic beginning in the 2018-2019 school year. The program is offered to children in Grades 2-5. Children identified for the program are given extra reading time on a daily basis during regular class. All teachers offering the program are trained by certified instructors in order to ensure children participating in the program are experiencing the same benefits that were observed during research.
At École Ste-Marguerite Bourgeoys our students are given the opportunity to unleash their creativity with innovative new learning spaces and programs. The Learning Commons is no longer your traditionally library, with colourful decor, transitional seating and building materials children can use for various projects. Our teachers encourage their students to explore different themes through a STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) lens.
The innovation continues outside with a new yoga sundeck and more natural elements such as large boulders, logs and open spaces that encourage children to use their imagination for play.
